Santa hits the slopes: a snowboarding twist on Christmas cheer

Santa traded his sleigh for a snowboard this year, carving down the slopes at Table Mountain, but with a twist no one expected.

Crowds watched in delight as the red-suited snowboarder sliced through the snow, bringing holiday cheer to the hill. But partway down the run, it became clear something was off. This Santa wasn’t the jolly old fellow everyone imagined.

“I got a text this morning asking if I could fill in for Santa,” said Jecamie Amos.

In an unexpected turn of events, a female ski patroller stepped in, tracking down every piece of the outfit before returning to the hill. She even took a moment to stuff her belly, completing the look and keeping the holiday magic alive.

“I went around getting my Santa voice going. Going around the chalet, going, ‘Ho, Ho, Ho, Merry Christmas’,” she said.

Beneath the twinkling snow and festive spirit, unexpected obstacles appeared during the snowboarder’s adventure as Santa.

“Trying to get used to the beard and the hair in my face is definitely a challenge, especially with the suit on. Trying to bend down to do bindings up and everything is a little bit of a chore,” Amos explained.

Yet the struggle could not dim the Christmas magic. Wherever Santa went, children gathered, their faces glowing with cheerful smiles and wonder.

“We had kids on the chairlifts singing Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer with us. Everyone seems pretty excited to see Santa,” she said.

The unexpected fill-in discovered that the day delivered not only joy to the children but also to herself, as she cherished the chance to connect with so many smiling faces.

“Getting to see reactions from the younger kids and even the older kids and parents and adults, it’s been really great. Everyone seems to be super happy, and it’s just really joyful out here right now,” said Amos.

Before hanging up the red suit and packing away her snowboard, she made sure to share one final message:

“Merry Christmas, happy holidays. I hope everyone stays safe and shreds hard.”
