Battlefords food-security program gets $19K through FCC AgriSpirit Fund
A program aimed at improving food security and health outcomes across the Battlefords and nearby First Nations has received a major boost through Farm Credit Canada (FCC)’s AgriSpirit Fund.
Battlefords Family Health Centre Inc., in partnership with the Battle River Treaty 6 Health Centre, has been awarded $19,000 to expand its Healthy Living Project, a culturally rooted initiative focused on gardening, nutrition and chronic-disease prevention.
The funds will be used to purchase essential gardening supplies, soil amendments, tools and raised-bed materials to help strengthen the program’s reach in North Battleford and surrounding communities.
FCC announced Wednesday it is distributing $1.5 million to 81 community projects across the country through this year’s AgriSpirit Fund, which supports capital projects in rural and smaller urban communities with fewer than 150,000 residents. Awards ranged from $10,000 to $25,000.
