North Stars fail to win fifth straight, fall 3-1 to Melville Millionaires
The Battlefords North Stars fell flat at home against the Melville Millionaires in a 3-1 loss at home. The win for Melville was the second straight victory for the Millionaires.
North Stars assistant coach Owen Lamb said there were a few factors leading to the loss. “I think the slow start, we let them come up and kind of dictate the pace off the beginning…Some key moments we didn’t execute, we had opportunities on special teams. Then just some timely turnovers that resulted in opportunities and chances for them, so a culmination of things.”
The slow start was certainly an issue for the North Stars. Just over a couple of minutes into the game, North Stars goaltender Steele Bass turned the puck over to Brayden Gourle behind the net, and Gourley brought it in front and scored his first SJHL goal before Bass could get back in front.
The Millionaires ended the first frame with a 1-0 lead in a period where they outshot the North Stars 17-9.
