RCMP in Maidstone are investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision north of Lloydminster that left an 88-year-old Alberta man dead.

Police were called around 6 p.m. Monday to a crash near the intersection of Highway 17 and Highway 798, roughly 12 kilometres north of the city. Officers and EMS responded and found a car and a truck had collided.

RCMP say the driver of the car, an 88-year-old man from Lloydminster, Alta., was taken to hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. His family has been notified.

The driver and passenger of the truck were also taken to hospital with what police describe as non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is ongoing with help from a Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionist.

“Maidstone RCMP is grateful for the support of the Lloydminster Rescue Squad who provided initial first aid and provided traffic control during this incident,” the detachment said in a release issued Nov. 25.

Anyone with information related to this incident, or any other criminal activity, is encouraged to contact the RCMP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
