On November 6, 2025 Gerald (Jerry) Hagenaars 79 yrs old, passed away peacefully at the Battleford Union Hospital with his wife of over 50 years by his side.

Jerry was born in Tilburg Holland and came to Canada at the age of 5 with his parents, John and Mary Hagenaars. They settled in Calgary, Alberta.  Jerry attended school in Calgary and also went to SAIT there.

In 1975 he married Zalia.  With their daughter they began years of living between Alberta and Saskatchewan. Jerry and Zalia opened a little sandwich and frozen yogurt shop (ZeeJays) in Saskatoon where they both met customers that became lifelong friends. In the late 90’s they chose Hafford, SK as their last home together.

They both approached retirement and enjoyed being grandparents to their two grandsons. In 2016 they became great-grandparents. Jerry was especially proud of his great-grand daughter earning himself the special nickname “Grumpy” which he wore with pride. Throughout their marriage Jerry and Zalia travelled quite a bit, going to Europe a few times, Hawaii and Mexico. They settled on a small place in Mesa, Arizona which brought them, their daughter and her family and friends many great and fun memories.

Jerry fought a long hard battle with cancer never believing in an expiration date.

He loved his harness racing family and all the horses throughout the year. He also had great love for his customers who became friend during his many years at Task Tools. He loved talking politics and followed every sport out there. The sports community has lost a huge couch fan and coach. He loved animals. He also loved his crew he worked with at Walmart and many of his regular customers.

As per Jerry’s wishes he didn’t want any kind of service. The family will be doing a private celebration of life at a later date. Any donations can be sent to your local Cancer Treatment Centre.

He is predeceased by both his parents: John and Mary Hagenaars.
