Rainfall warning, snow forecasted for Thanksgiving Day

The Thanksgiving weekend is among the busiest of the year for travel and it appears Mother Nature won’t be cooperating.

A rainfall warning has been issued by Environment Canada for a big chunk of the province, stretching from Indian Head in the south to areas north of La Ronge.

The system is expected to stay east of Saskatoon.

The heaviest band of rainfall will be highly localized in an area from north of Regina to Nipawan.

Rainfall totals over the next 24 hours are expected to be 50 to 60 mm for warned areas with more general amounts of 30 to 40 in surrounding areas including Regina.

Rain will precede a transition to snow later this evening before tapering off Monday morning.

Strong winds, gusting 60 to 80 km/h are also expected to develop this afternoon.

Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations.
