BMHA registration now open for 2019-20 season

It may seem like hockey just wrapped up around the area, but registration for the 2019-20 season is well underway.

Everything opened online yesterday, and early bird pricing is available if registration is completed by June 15. When it comes to registration, BMHA President Kyle Kellgren said the important aspect is a desire to be able to have a rough number of registrants, so they can begin to plan for the season.

“Every year we try and get an early count so we can plan,” he said. “(We used to do this) in the fall, in late August. We couldn’t plan for coaches or how many were in each division.”

Prices for registration in Battlefords Minor Hockey are $600 for Initiation, $800 for Novice and Atom, and Pee Wee, Bantam and Midget will cost families $1050. There are added costs for AA, the STEP league, and provincial teams as well. Kellgren says they tried to keep the costs as affordable as possible.

“It’s the same prices as last year. It’s a good price for kids that want to get into hockey, we’re just excited (to continue on) to next year,” he said.

If players are registered after June 15, there will be an added charge of $30 with the exception of AA players from outside of the Battlefords.

BMHA is also looking for two directors for the season, in both the Initiation and Novice age groups. The registration can be done online here.

BMHA is also looking for applicants for their post secondary scholarship. The applicants must be in good standing with SHA and the BMHA, in Grade 12, and attending a post-secondary institution in the fall or within the next four years. The grants may be awarded to a male or female hockey player, or an official with BMHA. An essay is required, along with transcripts, and will be chosen by a committee of five BMHA board members.
