New Battleford grocery store promises familiar feel

Discovery Co-op will officially open the doors of its new food store and pharmacy in Battleford tomorrow.

The new business will operate in the old Super A Foods building, and feature everything the North Battleford location offers.

Marketing and Communications Manager Leanne Ducommun says the project was needed in Battleford.

“We heard a lot from our members from the Town of Battleford that they need this grocery store,” she said.

The new store will feature grocery and produce sections, a pharmacy and a selection of health and beauty products.

Adding in the pharmacy was a major push for the cooperative, and Ducommun said it ties everything together as an all-in-one stop for what residents and members need.

“(It’s about) really building that trust in having that health connection, (as) a full tie in,” she said. “This was also another need that was asked of us by our members.”

In celebration of the official grand opening, a fundraiser barbeque will be held tomorrow from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the new establishment. All the proceeds will go to the Battleford Volunteer Fire Department.
