North Stars drop close battle in Kindersley

Dec 21, 2024 | 10:04 AM

It was another close one for the Battlefords North Stars on Friday as they fell short 2-1 against the Klippers in Kindersley.

The North Stars saw some struggles right out of the gate, failing to record a shot on goal in the first seven minutes of the game, while Kindersley managed 10 shots in that same time frame and even found the back of the net to take an early 1-0 lead.

Going into the second, the North Stars were already being outshot 18-7 and needed to have a big period to try and get some momentum back.

Eventually after some continued pressure and some solid shots on net, the North Stars got a big goal from Colton Getzlaff on the powerplay to tie the game 1-1 near the end of the second.

Coming out for the third, the North Stars had some chances and put in a good effort but still just couldn’t seem to get anything going offensively. Kindersley was eventually able to get another goal to go on and win the game, 2-1.

In the end, the North Stars got outshot 46-31, went 1/4 on the powerplay and stopped the Klippers all four times on the penalty kill.

Justen Maric kept the North Stars in the game, making big saves throughout the entire night and turning aside 44 shots.

The North Stars record is now at 15-9-3-2 (W-L-OTL-SOL) for 35 points, bumping them down to fourth overall in the league.

As always, the North Stars hope to bounce back tonight as they take on the Klippers again, this time at the Access Communications Centre with puck drop at 7:30 p.m.

Tune in to the Napa Auto Parts North Stars Hockey Broadcast on CJNB/CJNS with the Ultra Print Pregame show starting at 7:00 p.m.
