Freezing rain, heavy snow in forecast for parts of Saskatchewan

Dec 2, 2024 | 11:14 AM

A period of freezing rain is expected to develop in the province’s northwest Monday night creating icy conditions.

Environment Canada issued a Freezing Rain Warning for an area that starts just south of Meadow Lake and reaches all the way up to Buffalo Narrows. The system should move out of the area by early Tuesday morning. Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the province, a Snowfall Warning exists for a stretch just north of Nipawin up to Sandy Bay. The snowfall will begin Monday afternoon and could dump 10 to 15 cm of snow before tapering off Tuesday morning. Environment Canada said in the warning that visibility may be suddenly reduced at times during heavy snow.

Travellers are being encouraged to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada and check the Highway Hotline before heading out.
