Sponsors show support at BUH Foundation kick off celebration

There was a good start to the Battlefords Union Hospital (BUH) Foundation kick off event Wednesday, as a lead up to the 23^rd Annual Wayne Pruden Memorial Golf Tournament next month.

Some of the sponsors were also announced during the event at the North Battleford Golf and Country Club.

The tournament, scheduled for June 3, is already sold out with 216 golfers registered to take part.

Master Sponsor Innovation Credit Union and Green Fee Sponsor North Battleford Golf and Country Club along with BUH Foundation representatives participated.

The BUH Foundation’s presentation focused on its fundraising goal to purchase a new blood bank fridge for the laboratory.

“They have to keep a certain amount of units of blood on hand,” said BUH Foundation Executive Director Claudette McGuire, adding many units are used for a variety of needs including responding to emergency care.

McGuire said the tournament continues to commemorate the memory of Wayne Pruden whom she described as a “very honourable man.”

“When they put this golf tournament together, and were trying to decide who they should make this in memory of, Mr. Pruden’s name kept coming up,” she said. “He was very community minded and family oriented.”

BUH Foundation Board of Directors Secretary Tracy Voigt appreciates everyone’s support for the effort.

“BUH Foundation is honoured to receive the continued commitment and dedication from the family, friends and businesses every year in recognition of a worthy individual and cause,” said Voigt in a statement.

The tournament has raised more than $500,000 since it’s launch.

Voigt added a word of thanks to M&M Food Market, which has been the Tournament’s Banquet Sponsor for 22 years.
