Warmer-than-normal weather continues through the weekend

The run of warmer-than-normal weather will continue across the province for the remainder of the week.

Meteorologist Danielle Desjardins of Environment and Climate Change Canada explained the weather has been warmer than average for the past couple of months on average.

“It is slightly unusual to have temperatures this high above average for this time of year,” she said.

The average daytime high in central Saskatchewan is right around the freezing mark, and the region is forecast to see double-digit highs into the weekend. La Ronge will also see high temperatures as much as 10 degrees above normal for the rest of the work week.

Conditions will become a little closer to seasonal on Sunday, according to Dejsardins, which could bring some snow to central and northern Saskatchewan. The system that is bringing snow is tracking more into the Buffalo Narrows and La Ronge area, but Desjardins said it could dip further south.

That will be followed by cooler temperatures next week, which are still close to what we’d normally see this time of year.

“A little bit of a cold stretch as we hit mid-week next week,” said Desjardins. “That cooler weather could last three or four days.”

Desjardins says November overall should be slightly warmer and drier than normal on average.

The La Nina coming in to replace the El Nino should be a slightly weaker one, but Desjardins said it will still bring in cooler and snowier weather than average when it does come into effect.
