Saskatchewan’s lieutenant-governor diagnosed with cancer

Lt.-Gov. Tom Molloy is undergoing treatment for pancreatic cancer.

The Office of the Lieutenant Governor made the announcement Tuesday.

According to the Canadian Cancer Society, about 5,500 Canadians were diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2017.

Molloy, 78, was sworn in as the province’s lieutenant-governor in March of 2018.

As Molloy receives treatment and recovers, Robert Richards will handle the constitutional and ceremonial duties of the lieutenant-governor. Richards is the chief justice of Saskatchewan.

Premier Scott Moe tweeted his support for Molloy on Tuesday morning.
