Former Little Pine chief Wayne Semaganis to run for N.B. mayor

Wayne Semaganis, former chief of Little Pine Cree Nation, has decided to run for mayor of the City of North Battleford in this coming election.

“I believe it is time, because of where we are in all of Canada, that there be a real voice given to bring First Nations and the rest of Canada together in the best way,” Semagains said.

In an email to battlefordsNOW, he pointed out that with all the experience he has gained through working with federal, provincial, civic, and First Nation leaders, he could help build the city into a more prosperous and inclusive community.

“I have been in this business community for at least 20 years, and there are many economic ventures that we have initiated through the Battleford Tribal Council,” he said.

With his experience as a former chief, he is confident that he will have the ability and expertise to address federal and provincial leaders and bring policy benefits to the City.

Semaganis said if elected, he would focus on addressing the needs of the business community and the taxation problem, as he is concerned about the need for more growth in the local economy.

“I can commit all my time as your mayor to working with the council to look at new ways of helping our city grow,” he said. He further stated that, as a leader, he needs to address opportunities in health, education, economic development, recreation, and social development.”

Semaganis will provide the public with more details of his campaign once they are available.
