Ronald Parchoma peacefully passed away on September 5th, 2024, with his beloved wife, Rose, by his side in Hafford SK, after a brief stay in long-term care. Ron was born on September 8th, 1947, in Hafford SK to Myron and Helen Parchoma. In 1970, he married his high school sweetheart, Rose Zerebeski, and they raised their two children, Rene and Rhonda in the Blaine Lake area. Ron was a man of many trades which included carpentry, farming, and managing Martin’s Lake Golf Course and Clubhouse. He later dedicated a career as a grader operator for the R.M. of Blaine Lake. After he retired from that role, he kept true to his roots which was farming. He enjoyed working for various farm families until his illness prevented him from continuing his work.
Ron’s deep love for his horses was well-known, and it was in their company that he found peace. His passion lay in racing his chariot teams with the Prince Albert Pony Chuckwagon and Chariot Association, where he took great pride in serving as the club’s president. Ron took pleasure in the excitement of judging the chuckwagon races and the “thrills and spills” that came with them. During those summers, Ron and Rose traveled together, forming lasting friendships and always making sure there was plenty of food and drink to welcome everyone to their camp. Their humble table was open to everyone, and there was always room for one more.
Over the years, Ron and Rose cherished watching their daughters grow up, get married, and start their own families. Ron’s greatest joy was the birth of his granddaughter, Lola Emelia. She brought a sparkle to his eyes and a deep love to his heart like no one else could, right up until the very end. He lived for the moments he could watch her daily videos, see her dance, play games, and head to the park to join in the shenanigans with her dad. The warmth of her embrace and the joy of these special times were among his greatest treasures.
Ron valued the many adventures he shared with Rose, whether near or far. These included family vacations to Las Vegas, California, and Banff in their retired years. They also took a cruise to Alaska with friends. His adventurous spirit was always eager for new experiences. They delighted in quiet evenings together, watching their favorite shows including Heartland, curling, and the Saskatchewan Rough Riders, and Edmonton Oilers games. They also enjoyed playing cards, or simply taking a drive to unwind from life’s demands. For many years Ron was an avid curler and spent many days throughout the week at the rink. Throughout it all, Ron and his family were profoundly grateful for Rose’s steadfast and loving care, which provided him with comfort and support when his strength waned so he could be in his own home for as long as possible.
Ron’s family will forever hold the memories they created together over the years—celebrating holidays, birthdays, and anniversaries. They fondly remember trips to the cabin, fishing excursions, country drives, game nights, bonfires, traveling, and the simple pleasure of sharing a beer in good company.
Ron was predeceased by his father, Myron, and his in-laws, Paul and Rose Zerebeski. He is survived by his mother, Helen, his loving wife, Rose; daughters Rene (Terry) Keller and Rhonda (Steve); granddaughter Lola Emelia Ganes; two grand-dogs, Peru and Lucy and his siblings, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to join us for a Celebration of Life on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at 2 p.m. in the Blaine Lake Composite School Gymnasium, with fellowship to follow.
Memorial Donations may be made in Ron Parchoma’s name to the Alzheimer’s Society of Saskatchewan, particularly for Primary Progressive Aphasia Research. The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at the Hafford Long Term Care Centre and Homecare for their care and compassion.
