‘I get to say goodbye’: Stolen dog’s ashes found

Apr 24, 2019 | 5:36 PM

It was a call Mandee Forester was not expecting, her dog’s stolen ashes had been found.

“It is a huge relief,” she told battlefordsNOW. “I get to say goodbye the way I wanted, which is the biggest part I felt was missing when it happened … I can be at peace.”

Forester’s dog of 13 years passed away in January. Last week, her home was broken into, turned upside down and one of the few items the thieves made off with was her dog’s ashes in a blue satin bag tied with gold rope.

She had given up hope they would ever be found until the call from police saying the bag had been located.

Despite the gravity of the situation, Forester highlighted the positive side to it all; how people were willing to help.

She said too often the community understandably jumps to the negative side of crime in the Battlefords. And while the situation was incredibly violating, “seeing people just willing to step up and help and have your back, people that don’t know you, it is amazing.”

“There is so much fear surrounding everything and if we can all just do what was done for me, just step up help and be good people, we can fight this back a little bit and take back the city,” she said.
