Sylene is dearly loved and remembered by her parents Roger & Collene Piatt, her brother Justin (JJ) Piatt; Grand Parents Maurice Piatt & Ida Christian. Grand mother Coleen Badger (nee Thoresen), Karen Fletcher, Bill & Karen Fletcher (nee Krantz), Predeceased by grandfather Gordon Badger.
Sylene Lillian Piatt was born in Melfort Saskatchewan on October 8, 1990 and passed away on July 7, 2024 at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, Sk. Sylene was diagnosed at a very young age with a seizure disorder that affected her throughout her entire life. This never once stopped her from being a ray of sunshine in the lives of those around her. At an early age mom and dad knew there would be many challenges, but Sylene helped them through these challenges with a simple smile, a hug or a cuddle on the couch. Sylene loved food and could be heard throughout the neighborhood when she knew it was close to supper as she screeched or grumbled if it wasn’t coming fast enough. Sylene may not have had words to share her thoughts or demands, but you quickly began to understand her emotions and her sounds for what they were.
As her needs increased The Kinsmen Foundation helped her with the purchase of a ceiling track system in her home and later with a special bed to help keep her safe when she had a seizure at night. She was also the poster child for TeleMiracle 33 with her picture on giant billboards all over Saskatchewan. We would stop to show her every billboard we seen, and she never let it go to her head, all she would do is smile, smirk and suck her thumb in true Sylene fashion. At the age of 20 she moved from her parents’ home to Meadow Manor group home operated by Battlefords Residential Services Inc (BRSI). She quickly ingratiated herself with the staff and started to run the show in her own way. She would get special privileges and get to stay up late into the night with the staff when other clients were fast asleep. The staff quickly became her 2nd family who loved and cared for her. Sylene left a lasting impression on all that knew her, it was amazing how many people would walk up to her and talk to her when she was out and about. She will be truly missed by her Mom, Dad, and big Brother, grandparents, family friends, and especially all the staff at BRSI who knew and loved her. Sylene’s final gift was being part of the organ donor program. Even in death she will be helping others to be their best selves.
All who knew and loved her are welcome to come to her celebration of life in the large back yard of her Group Home, Meadow Manor (1731 – 102nd Street North Battleford) at 11:00 am July 20, 2024. Please bring a lawn chair and help us to celebrate Sylene’s life.
