UPDATE: Deadly weekend on highway near Battlefords

Not one, but two fatal collisions occurred on Highway #4 Friday afternoon resulting in five deaths and six injured people.

At approximately 12:45 p.m. Battlefords RCMP responded to a truck and van collision south of Cochin, just north of North Battleford.

A 48-year-old woman and two young boys, ages 5 and 6, were declared deceased on the scene.

They were all from Flying Dust First Nation.

An adult female passenger in the van was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The adult male driver and sole occupant of the truck was airlifted by STARS to hospital also with serious injuries.

Less than three hours later, there was another fatal collision just south of Battleford.

At approximately 3:15 p.m. Battlefords RCMP determined a motorhome and SUV collided.

The 29-year-old female driver of the SUV and a six-month-old baby boy were pronounced dead at the scene.

They were both from Red Pheasant First Nation.

Two passengers from the SUV – an adult male and a young boy – were taken to hospital with serious injuries. STARS airlifted the boy to hospital.

The adult male driver and adult female passenger of the motorhome were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Battlefords RCMP continue to investigate both incidents with the assistance of a Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionist.

The next of kin have been notified for all families.

The RCMP said its thoughts are with the families during this difficult time.
