Jul 4, 2024 | 3:55 PM

The Battlefords North Stars will host one of five games happening on the opening night of the 2024 -2025 SJHL regular season schedule.

On Friday, Sept. 20 at 7:30 p.m. the Kindersley Klippers will visit the Access Communications Centre. The next night, the North Stars will face Kindersley again, this time on their opponent’s home ice.

Other opening night contests include:

  • Weyburn Red Wings @ Yorkton Terriers – 7:00 p.m.
  • Melfort Mustangs @ La Ronge Ice Wolves – 7:30 p.m.
  • Nipawin Hawks @ Flin Flon Bombers – 7:30 p.m.
  • Melville Millionaires @ Estevan Bruins – 7:00 p.m.

This years’ schedule will feature 56 regular season games and two in-season showcases with the MJHL.

The North Stars are part of the Nutrien division consisting of Humboldt, Kindersley, and Notre Dame. The Sherwood division includes La Ronge, Flin Flon, Melfort, and Nipawin; and the Viterra sponsored division includes Estevan, Weyburn, Melville and Yorkton. A press release detailing the upcoming season schedule said teams will face each in-division rival eight times, and each out-of-division club four times each.

SJHL Commissioner Kyle McIntyre said, “It is an exciting time for the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. Last season we had incredible parody and competitive balance, exciting playoffs and one of the most memorable league championships in recent memory. We can’t wait for the puck to drop on our upcoming season.”

Battleford’s season ended last April with a 5-1 defeat to the Flin Flon Bombers in Game 4 of their SJHL semi-finals series. They finished fourth in regular season standings with a record of 36 wins and 15 losses, 4 overtime losses and one shoot-out loss.
