Michelle Dyck passed away suddenly, but peacefully on December 6, 2023. A small memorial at graveside will happen June 15, 2024 at 10 am at North Battleford City Cemetary and there will not be a funeral, as per Michelle’s wishes.
She leaves to mourn, her Mother, Elaine Dyck, brother Randy(Monique), sister Tracey, nieces and nephews: Emmet, Brielle, Ava, Kyler, Candace, Adam. She was predeceased by her father.
She was born in North Battleford May 6 , 1964. She spent time in Meadow Lake and then North Battleford.
Michelle had a passion for animals and kids. She could be tough, but fair and kids usually responded to that. Most of her friends remember how even if you didn’t talk to each other often, when you did catch up to each other, there was lots to talk about and Michelle was a great listener. .
(Michelle’s friend Judy writes) Michelle worked at Playtime Childcare from July, 1999 to August, 2020. 21 years of working together has given so many memories it will be hard to condense but I will try.
*Michelle loved working with children. They say everyone has a calling and working with children was definitely Michelle’s calling. She was able to work with all ages of children but had an amazing ability to work with children who had special needs. Michelle could relate to these children better than anyone else could and never let their special need define them. She helped them to grow, develop and reach potentials that no one thought possible. Michelle didn’t just hear a child talking she truly listened to what they had to say. She developed a strong relationship with each child that was in her care. Many children who she cared for are grown now but they still remember their favorite teacher Michelle.
*Michelle was very actively involved in her work. She spent many hours outside of work planning activities and crafts for her “Fireflies”. Whenever there was a staff meeting, conference, workshop or staff party Michelle was always in attendance. Michelle was not just a co-worker but also a friend. She would often help her co-workers with any problems they were experiencing (work or personal) and never once asked for any recognition when doing it or even expected any. This was just the way Michelle was. She often would say there was no “I” in team and she meant it. Michelle showed many people what being a team player was all about.
*All of us here will miss Michelle including her sarcastic humour. It is impossible to work with someone for 21 years and not develop a close bond. Rest easy our friend, you deserve it.
Michelle’s friend Angie writes: We all have wonderful memories of Michelle’s kindness and curtness…lol I remember doing weekend gaming marathons of Donkey Kong and card game nights. She would love to tease my dogs (big ones) and always was there in my time of need. She has seen my highs and lows and never once did I feel judged by her when I talked with her. She enjoyed spending time outside and had many plans for this or that. Always a craft project or 5 on the go.
When Elaine was not able to run her Mental Health approved home anymore due to her health, Michelle took over the home. That’s what she did, what she thought needed to be done in her own quiet way. Over the years, many people have stayed in their home. The longest staying resident was over 30 years, and he was part of the family.
So many people will miss Michelle, and the kids she worked with over the years usually remember her, even if they haven’t seen her for a long time. That may be the biggest part of her legacy as the verse says:
A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove…but the world may be a different because I was important in the life of a child.
