Elwin Mervin Hoganson (Hogie)
Born November 26, 1942, in North Battleford, Saskatchewan. Died November 24, 2023, in Sceptre, Saskatchewan.
Lovingly remembered by his children: Rhonda Dayton and Dean Dayton; grandchildren: Ashley Dayton (Todd), Carla Dayton (Kendell), Mitchell Dayton, Justin Dayton, and Hunter Dayton; his great grandchildren: Dallas Schimpf (Andrew), Tyler Schimpf, and Brooklyn Schimpf; siblings: Dale Hoganson (Mardelle), and Shirley Hoganson; sister-in-laws: Gail Ridgway (Doug), and Cec Parenteau (Joe); and many nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Predeceased by his wife: Carlene Hoganson; his children: James Hoganson, and Ross Dayton; his parents: Frances and Marguerite Hoganson; his siblings: Doreen Kreitzer (Jack), and Wayne Hoganson (Nedien); in-laws: Sally Carpenter (Roy), and Doug Kipp; daughter-in-law: Tammy Hirsch; granddog: Bandit.
Elwin was born in North Battleford and attended school there. After he was done school he got a job as a Grain Buyer with Sask Wheat Pool in North Battleford. He then got a position as a Grain Buyer in Baljennie, until it closed. After that he got a position as a Grain Buyer in Springwater, until it closed. He then got a position as an Assistant Grain Buyer in Sceptre, until he retired.
Elwin loved to participate in sports, such as, hockey, curling, baseball, umping, and cribbage. When he could no longer participate himself, he supported his family by going to watch them participate in dance, 4-H, volleyball, curling, drama, hockey, football, boxing, track&field, baseball, and motocross. He was a good card cheater, according to his competition (his favourite granddaughter). Elwin enjoyed playing card games with the family, and completing puzzles. He loved and cared for all of his friends and family.
A graveside service will be held in the spring in Battleford, and officiated by his family. He will be interred with his wife Carlene.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
