With sadness we announce the death of Gary Lloyd GARDINER, aged 74, who passed away suddenly in his sleep May 11, 2024.
Gary was a longtime member of the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires. He was a retired Canadian Armed Forces veteran who had been stationed in Germany, BC, AB, SK and the far North. After his armed forces career, he travelled thousands of miles in North America as a long-haul trucker before becoming a Commissionaire. For many years, he and his former wife had been keen motorcycle riders. In fact, Gary had been a motorcycle safety instructor in both Canada and Germany.
Gary was the son of the late Kathleen & Lloyd Gardiner of North Battleford, SK.
He was predeceased by his parents, sister Sara (formerly known as Melody) Gardiner, nephew Tim Lindsay and niece Laura Lindsay.
He leaves behind siblings Wendy Gardiner Lindsay (Rob) and Wayne Gardiner (Carol), niece Leanne Gardiner Remillard (Don), and nephews Ian Gardiner (Archana) and Adam Gardiner (Ayaz).
Gary was married to Christine (McCrystal) Gardiner for 46 years.
While married, trailering off-road in Alberta and BC and wintering in Arizona was his idea of a good holiday.
Gary was a natural do-it-yourselfer who thoroughly enjoyed his rural acreage. He loved the outdoors and nature. Walking and hiking with his dogs brought him great pleasure. In recent years, tales of travels with his beloved cat, Purrel, always left his family laughing.
Gary, and his quirky sense of humor, will be greatly missed.
A memorial service is planned for the end of July. The date and details will be available via the website of Glenwood Memorial, Sherwood Park.
