From there Doug went on to work at the Co-op garage as a mechanic for another 19 years. ln 2001 both Doug and Agnes retired and moved to Wilkie to be close to their daughter and their grandsons. Even though they retired, Doug still needed to keep busy and enjoyed working as a farm hand for a friend. Doug enjoyed taking family vacations, camping, fishing, gardening, tinkering in his garage, reading and listening to music throughout his life.
