New trial date set for man facing child pornography charges

Feb 23, 2024 | 1:00 PM

A new trial date has been set for a Marshall, Sask., man facing 11 charges, including sexual assault and distribution of child pornography.

Joseph Sproull, 43, is charged with possession of child pornography, distribution of child pornography, sexual assault, sexual interference, and making available child pornography.

Court documents showed the alleged offence happened between Aug. 26, 2020, and March 12, 2021.

Sproull was granted bail with conditions following a hearing in Lloydminster Provincial Court in September 2021.

Sproull’s judge-alone trial date was originally scheduled to take place at the Court of King’s Bench in Battleford on Feb. 12, 2024. Following a pre-trial conference on Feb. 16, the trial has now instead been set to start on Oct. 28.

The Defence lawyer in the case is Brian Pfefferle. The matter is currently being handled by Crown Prosecutor Andrew Clements.

A publication ban is in effect in the case to protect the identity of the complainants.

The charges in the case were initially laid following a police investigation in 2021 involving a home on First Avenue East in Marshall where a home-based daycare was operating at the time. The Government of Saskatchewan Ministry of Education suspended the daycare licence on July 16, 2021, and advised parents of the change.
