Public falls in love with Humboldt SPCA’s ‘Neuter Your Ex’ campaign

Some Saskatchewan felines are helping mend broken hearts this Valentine’s Day.

The Humboldt & District SPCA recently put out a call online to scorned and jilted lovers, offering them the chance to “Neuter Your Ex” this year.

For each $50 donation, the SPCA said it will name a cat after the donor’s ex, then neuter or spay them.

The fun play on relationship revenge provided some catharsis to those who have left bad relationships, while also helping the animal shelter raise funds to keep animal populations under control.

People fell head over heels for the idea.

“We have received loads of support and have had a lot of laughs from your comments and messages. We never expected our post to receive so much attention,” the SPCA said in a social media post.

“We love how creative you guys have been – naming cats after yourselves, someone you love, or even your exes.”

The shelter ended up collecting $2,250 in donations, which will go toward the cost of fixing 45 cats.

“You have exceeded our expectations tremendously,” the shelter added.

“Originally, we were planning on going until after Valentine’s Day, but we are no longer going to accept any more names going forward. We have lots of new names to use.”

The shelter said the newly named cats will be offered for adoption soon in hopes of finding them permanent homes.
