"Chili" end to Wintertainment

Feb 21, 2016 | 4:26 PM

Wintertainment week ended with some heat at the Aquatic Centre on Saturday, Feb. 20.

Four contestants from the Battlefords brought their best chili and it was up to the public to decide which was best. After the votes were tallied Heather Keller and her son Cameron were crowned the winners.

“We are very excited. We worked together as a team with our family,” Keller said. “It was our very first chili cook off so we’re very happy to win. We cooked a sweet medium heat chili.”

It was a close competition. Keller won 17 votes with second place receiving 14. The chili contest marked the end of Wintertainment, which has been a great success according to organizer Candace Dustan.

“This year has been a great success. All events were well attended as the community warmed up to Wintertainment. The weather was amazing for the week and many new activities and old favorites were enjoyed by all. There was a span of 30- 400 participants with an average of 200 participants at each event.”

She said they’re looking to go “even bigger and better” next year. “We’re planning on adding a winter classic outdoor hockey game, perhaps an ice slide and a taste of Wintertainment.”

If you can’t wait until next year for Wintertainment activities, not to worry, Dustan is planning something soon.

“Our next event is red cross pink day at the aquatic centre Wednesday Feb. 24. We will be dying the pool pink. Admission is 50 per cent off all day if you come wearing pink. We are selling pink t shirts, bracelets, and stickers with a portion of proceeds going to the Red Cross’ anti bullying efforts.”
