RCMP arrest Saskatoon man after drug investigation in P.A. & northern Saskatchewan

Dec 29, 2023 | 1:21 PM

RCMP have arrested a Saskatoon man for allegedly trafficking illegal drugs in northern Saskatchewan.

The Mounties’ investigation started back in June with officers focusing on three communities: Prince Albert, La Ronge, and Stanley Mission.

In August, officers conducted a targeted traffic stop on Highway 2, north of Prince Albert. They also searched a house in Saskatoon. They found crack cocaine, cocaine, hydromorphone, cash, trafficking paraphernalia, a vehicle, and electronic devices.

Fast forward roughly four months and RCMP officially charged Randolph Letwiniuk, 60, with two counts of trafficking, possession for trafficking, and two counts of possession of ammunition.

“When combatting the supply of dangerous drugs in our communities, it’s not enough to go after street-level dealers. We have to disrupt the supply chain,” said S/Sgt. Kory Davidsen from the Saskatchewan Enforcement Response Team (SERT).

“We believe this arrest has prevented dangerous illicit drugs from entering northern Saskatchewan communities. We’re not stopping there. We’ll continue until everyone gets the message: if you traffic drugs, you will be investigated, arrested, and held responsible for your reckless actions.”

Letwiniuk is scheduled to appear in a Saskatoon Provincial Courtroom on Feb. 15, 2024.
