Silvernagle rink to make seventh appearance at Viterra Curling Championship

It’s official!

The Robyn Silvernagle rink will be back to defend their provincial curling title when the Viterra Scotties Provincial Curling Championship takes over the Tisdale RECPlex in Tisdale, on January 17th – 21st.

The popular curling foursome who represent the Twin Rivers Curling Club of North Battleford announced this week that they have qualified for the 12-team event based on the Canadian Team Ranking System (CTRS) with Curling Canada.

This will mark Silvernagle’s seventh trip to the Viterra Curling Championships since 2016 with the only exception being in 2021 when COVID-19 forced the event to be cancelled.

“It never gets old,” said Silvernagle. “Any time you get an invitation to compete for the right to represent your home province (Saskatchewan) is a tremendous honour.”

Silvernagle will be looking for her fourth provincial championship in January and knows that her squad will have stiff competition from the other rinks who have qualified for Tisdale.

“Our team will be in tough considering the calibre of teams that we will face this year,” Silvernagle noted. “As defending champion, we realize that everyone will be gunning for us, but we welcome that challenge.”

Among the teams who have also qualified for Tisdale in January are the Sherry Anderson, Skylar Ackerman and Jessica Mitchell rinks of Saskatoon, Moose Jaw’s Penny Barker and Sherrilee Orsted, and Michelle Englot of Regina and Nancy Martin of Martensville.

The four remaining teams will filled following this weekend’s Viterra Last Chance Event in Assiniboia.

The 12-team championship will feature two pools of six teams, with a round-robin format, followed by a four-team page playoff. The winner will then head to Calgary for the national Scotties Tournament of Heart Feb.16 to 25.

The Silvernagle foursome consists of Chaelynn Kitz (second) and (third/mate) Kelly Schafer and lead rock Kara Thevenot who likes her team’s chances this year.

“We have a very focused team right now,” added Thevenot.” We trust each other out on the ice and we trust in the work and conditioning each of us has put in to get to here.”
