Buying Taylor Swift tickets online? Here’s how to stay safe

Taylor Swift’s Era’s Tour is among the most popular and iconic of all time. It is also the most lucrative and as the holiday season rolls around, the social scams are rampant as fans try to nab tickets to one of the Canadian shows.

On social media accounts for the Battlefords area, there have been numerous posts selling tickets. According to an article from 650 CKOM, a Facebook scam involves people pretending to be “friends.” Money is sent but the tickets don’t appear.

The Saskatchewan RCMP said they have received complaints of online ticket fraud although can’t say how many or where in the province they’re coming from.

The tickets are quite hard to get a hold of and now that the performer has been named Time’s Person of the Year, Swifties everywhere will be clamoring to find a way to get that proverbial golden ticket.

In an email, the RCMP offered some tips on how people can protect themselves, namely: be extremely careful when buying tickets online – especially from social media sites for the biggest and most popular shows.

Be sure to question the seller regarding the tickets themselves: like section, row, seat number and then ask to see the “original purchase receipt or confirmation email. Don’t send payment unless you’re sure the tickets are genuine.”

Do your research and check out their profile. Is it well established or is it too new? Are there reviews you can look at?

Finally, how is the interaction going? Does something feel off or just not right? Trust that feeling and back away.
