City prepares for 2024 budget deliberation meetings

Nov 15, 2023 | 7:46 AM

North Battleford residents have the opportunity to get their first glimpse of the City of North Battleford’s proposed budget for 2024 on Friday.

North Battleford city council heard the details from city finance director Margarita Pena at its meeting Tuesday night.

The budget draft should be available online on the city’s website for residents to peruse on Nov. 17.

This draft is only administration’s proposal and before council starts to vote on the budget it will undertake a number of deliberation meetings where it will have an opportunity to make any changes to the document it sees fit.

Administration will present a draft of the budget to council on Nov. 20 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the first deliberation meeting. General government services will also be discussed, as well as the city’s parks and recreation department.

The second deliberation session is scheduled for Nov. 23 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., where police, fire and protective services, as well as operations services, will be discussed.

The third meeting will take place on Nov. 30, again from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., where UPAR costs, including infrastructure, waste management, water and sanitary sewer, will be part of the focus. Third-party grants will also be discussed.

If council requires further deliberation sessions, they have the option to meet on Dec. 5 and Dec. 7.

Council is expected to vote on the revised 2024 budget draft at its regular meeting on Dec. 11.

The city said if there are any changes to the deliberation meeting dates the public will be notified in advance.
