RCMP investigating alleged sexual assault involving child in Spiritwood

RCMP officers in Spiritwood are looking into an alleged sexual assault that was reported on Monday.

Police said an investigation found that the assault happened to a child under the age of 10 at a home in the community.

On Tuesday, Jayden Stephenson, 19, was arrested and is now facing charges including sexual interference and sexual assault. According to RCMP, the child was known to Stephenson.

“We are not releasing a specific age or the gender of the child to protect their privacy, as this is a small community,” police said in a media release.

Stephenson is set to appear in court in Spiritwood on Jan 9.

“Saskatchewan RCMP will work to determine if there are any additional victims. Investigators are aware that the accused has previously worked or lived in environments where children were present,” police said.

The investigation is being assisted by the North Battleford RCMP’s General Investigation Section.
