Elk Ridge to host Saskatchewan Open in August for newly formed PGA Tour Americas

Nov 7, 2023 | 2:56 PM

Elk Ridge will be a prime destination for golfers looking to get a membership to compete in one of the world’s best tours.

The newly formed PGA Tour Americas announced its inaugural schedule for next year which included a stop in the resort village. The Tour is a merger between PGA Tour Canada and PGA Tour Latinoamérica.

Elk Ridge hosted the Saskatchewan Open for PGA Tour Canada earlier this year and will do so again in August for PGA Tour Americas. The top 10 players at the end of the season will get to play in the Korn Ferry Tour, the PGA Tour’s developmental Tour, in 2025.

“It really gets to showcase the property, the province, and golf in Saskatchewan as a whole,” said Ryan Wells, director of golf for Elk Ridge and assistant tournament director.

Some say this will be the second Elk Ridge Saskatchewan Open, however, it’s actually the third. The 2021 event was rained out with players only getting a chance to play for a couple of hours on day one.

Wells said last year’s disappointment made this year’s tournament even better, though he did mention the golfers truly made it a success. To say they put on a show would be an understatement as 26 ended up shooting 10-under. The winner, John Pak, finished the tournament at 21-under.

Wells believes the 2024 Open may see even better scores since there will also be new players from PGA Tour Latinoamérica who’ll make it even more competitive.

“It’s a number I didn’t think they’d get to… now (that they’re) combining the two tours into one, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see 26-under or a little lower,” he said.

The PGA Tour Americas’ inaugural season will include 16 stops in Canada, the USA, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Ecuador, and Columbia. Nine of the tournaments will be in Canada with Victoria, B.C.; Strathcona County, Alberta; Mactaquac, New Brunswick; Bromont, Quebec; Ottawa, Ontario; Windsor, Ontario; Caledon, Ontario; and Winnipeg, Manitoba all joining Elk Ridge.

The Saskatchewan Open will be held from Aug. 15-18, 2024.
