A pair of Battlefords North Stars have been recognized for their outstanding play over the past week, as offensive superstar Kian Bell and defenceman and team captain Tanner Gold have been named to the SJHL’s Players of the Week.

Bell has been named the SJHL MVP of the Week and Forward of the Week, while Gold has been named Defenceman of the Week.

Bell wasted no time getting reacquainted in the SJHL, with five goals and five assists for 10 points over his first three games this season, since rejoining the team from Edmonton of the Western Hockey League.

The reigning SJHL MVP, scoring champion, and Player of the Year from a season ago opened the road trip with a three-assist outing Thursday against the Red Wings. That was ollowed by a four-goal night Friday in Estevan, before capping the weekend with a goal and two helpers Saturday, back in Weyburn.

Gold, who has been the team’s cornerstone all season, earned Defenceman of the Week honours with six assists over the three games. It was highlighted by a helper on the eventual game-winner Friday in Estevan and a dominant four-assist performance on the final night of the trip against Weyburn.

Now up to 13 points (one goal, 12 assists) in 13 games this season, Gold sits tied for fifth in defenceman scoring league-wide.

Head coach of the North Stars, Brayden Klimosko said it’s good to see both players recognized for the roles they played in the team’s success, helping lead the North Stars to a 2-1-0 record over the three-game swing.

“Both had great weeks for us,” Klimosko said. “Goldy’s one of the best defencemen in our league and he had a big week for us obviously, and then with someone like Kian you maybe don’t know what you have until you don’t have him for a bit. He’s jumped right back in where he left off, so it’s nice to have both back and to see them both be rewarded.”

Together, the pair, along with their North Stars’ teammates will return to play on home ice Thursday, for their first of what will be back-to-back games against the Yorkton Terriers at the ACC. Thursday’s NAPA Auto Parts North Stars Broadcast will be available on 1050 CJNB with the Ultra Print Pregame Show at 7 p.m. and puck drop to follow at 7:30 p.m.
