Onion Lake RCMP nab wanted man following rural chase into Alberta

Oct 27, 2023 | 4:12 PM

A man wanted by Onion Lake RCMP on multiple charges including aggravated sexual assault, forcible confinement, and intimidating a justice system participant was caught Thursday in Alberta after a 30-minute chase by police.

Tristan Whitstone, 27, was seen in a parked vehicle by a patrolling RCMP member in Onion Lake but when the officer tried to apprehend him, the vehicle drove away.

Officers then followed the vehicle over rural roads for 30 minutes before it pulled over near Marwayne, Alberta. Whitstone was arrested without incident.

He was the subject of a police manhunt following a serious sexual assault in the Onion Lake area in August of this year.

Whitstone was almost arrested on Oct. 16. He and 21-year-old Shanayah Hill fled from police after an officer recognized Whitstone.

MacKenzie Cannepotatoe, 23, was also with the pair but was arrested at the scene. He had a warrant for his arrest at the time and faces multiple charges including possession of property obtained by crime (over $5,000), multiple gun charges, intimidating a justice system participant, and more.

Police are still looking for Hill.
