RCMP charge man for allegedly striking police vehicle in Onion Lake

Oct 25, 2023 | 4:11 PM

Onion Lake RCMP are charging a man for allegedly ramming a side-by-side into a police vehicle.

Around 7 p.m. on Monday, an officer in the community saw several suspicious people operating a side-by-side outside a business.

When they pulled up and activated their emergency lights, the side-by-side reportedly accelerated and hit the RCMP vehicle. Fortunately, the officer was not hurt.

The side-by-side fled but was found about a kilometre away damaged and abandoned. Shortly after, officers found a 33-year-old man whom they believe was driving the vehicle.

He’s since been charged with assault on a police officer with a weapon, flight from a peace officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, wearing a disguise with intent, failure to stop after an accident, and operating a vehicle while impaired.

He’s scheduled to appear in a North Battleford provincial courtroom on Thursday.
