Case for man facing charges after cattle seized moved to next year

The case for a man charged with failing to provide adequate care, after a large number of cattle were seized by Animal Protection Services of Saskatchewan (APSS), has now been re-scheduled to return to North Battleford provincial court on June 24, 2024, to be spoken to.

It was previously expected to be heading for a trial this month.

Following an investigation in April 2022, Morris Tokaryk was charged under the Criminal Code. He’s accused of causing unnecessary pain, suffering, or injury to animals and failing to provide adequate water, food, and care for animals, on a property near North Battleford.

He has also been charged under the Animal Protection Act for allowing animals to be in distress, as well as for failing to comply with a corrective action order.

Tokaryk’s defence lawyer is Tim Nolin, with Senior Prosecutor Jennifer Schmidt serving for the Crown.

With the help of Blaine Lake RCMP, Animal Protection Services searched a property near Whitkow, Sask. from April 6 to 8, 2022. As a result of the investigation, 308 cattle were seized.
