P.A. councillor looking to hold town hall after recent shootings in East Flat

Prince Albert city councillor Don Cody is planning a town hall meeting for people living in the city’s East Flat.

The main talking point will be crime as the area has seen two shootings in the last couple of weeks.

The first happened on Sept. 27 in the 100 Block of MacDowall Cres. with the second happening on Sept. 29 in the 1000 Block of 4th Street East. Fortunately, no one was injured in either shooting.

Cody, whose ward covers the East Flat, told paNOW he’s received a few calls from concerned people.

“We want to fill in the people about what’s going on, what we think the cause is, and what we can do to get rid of what’s happening,” he said.

A town hall was held last month for those living in Ward 7 with Interim Police Chief Patrick Nogier participating.

Cody explained the East Flat town hall would be different as he wants to cover a large range of topics.

“There are questions about everything… not only crime,” he added.

The goal is to have P.A. police and representatives from each of the city’s departments.

At this time, Cody doesn’t have a date for when the town hall will be held. He currently wants to wait until the strike involving inside city workers is over.

“Everyone’s quite busy and I would certainly not want to have a meeting without the proper authorities there,” he said.

However, he’s open to having it beforehand if anything escalates and needs to be immediately shared with the public.
