North Battleford’s council will return to their former site at City Hall until renovations are done in the council chambers room at the Don Ross Centre.

“This multi-phase renovation was approved by council in late 2022 to create a new permanent council chambers space that would be fully accessible,” the city confirmed in a press release.

The city said this stage of renovations will include the construction and installation of a new city council bench and administrative tables, lighting improvements, installation of new doors and a dropped-tile ceiling. New technology will improve the audio and video experience. As well, sound-absorbing panelling will be added to the walls.

Earlier in 2023, council awarded the construction tender for the renovations to local contractor LV Schell Construction Management Services Ltd.

The city noted while council meetings are held in the former chambers in City Hall, there will be limited access for people with mobility challenges.

As a result, to ensure accessibility for everyone who wishes to view city council and planning committee sessions online, these meetings will continue to be available via Zoom.

“The City of North Battleford will provide a progress update as renovations near completion, to provide advance notice to the public regarding when meetings will revert to the Don Ross Centre council chambers,” the city stated.
