A woman charged after a standoff in Prince Albert’s West Flat area, has changed her pleas and now awaits sentencing.

Angela Fay Ahenakew, who was released on bail last July, and was scheduled to face trial, appeared in person Tuesday at Prince Albert Provincial Court.

Guilty pleas were entered by her lawyer to roughly half a dozen charges including vehicle theft, stealing a wallet, using a stolen credit card at a local gas station, possession of a firearm (.22 calibre rifle) and failing to comply with a prior release condition that included an order she not possess any firearms.

A pre-sentence report, which will canvass Ahenakew’s personal background and ultimately assist the judge in making an appropriate sentence has been ordered. The case that dates back to Jan. 2, has been adjourned to Dec. 4.

On the day of the incident, Prince Albert police were called to a home on 18th St. W.

Ahenakew, one of 11 people inside, had stolen a vehicle from a house on MacArthur Drive. During the ensuing standoff with police, the other 10 people were evacuated and Ahenakew barricaded herself inside with a gun. She gave up peacefully after several hours.

Officers later recovered a rifle and ammunition from inside the home. No one was injured in the incident Along with the stolen vehicle, a stolen wallet, credit cards, a firearm and ammunition were also recovered.

Not guilty pleas had been originally been entered last May, and upon sentencing, the remaining five charges that relate to storage and possession of firearms, are expected to be withdrawn by the Crown.
