TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION

North Battleford begins week of Reconciliation with flag-raising ceremony

Sep 24, 2023 | 12:00 PM

The first in a series of events to mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in North Battleford will be held on Monday.

First Nations Elders, Chiefs, dignitaries, and school children will come together for a flag-raising ceremony on Monday morning in front of City Hall.

The event is one of many organized by the City of North Battleford and the Battlefords Agency Tribal Chiefs (BATC) who will host a similar flag-raising ceremony in the Town of Battleford around 2 p.m. Monday.

The Acâhkos Awâsisak-Star Children project helps residential school survivors from the Battlefords and surrounding areas. Their flag will be the one raised on Monday morning at 11:00 a.m.

Due to the large number of people expected to attend the event, the City of North Battleford will be closing 101st Street between 12th Avenue and 13th Avenue on Monday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

A part of 13th Ave. will be reduced to single-lane traffic. The City’s Director of Protective Services, in partnership with Community Safety Officers, will be on-site to assist with traffic control.
