North Stars head to Kindersley for second night of back-to-back

Coming off a 4-0 win in their home opener Friday, the Battlefords North Stars (1-0-0-0) return to action Saturday night in Kindersley, for the second game of their back-to-back with the Klippers (0-1-0-0) this weekend.

Four different players scored for the Stars in their opening night win, as returning veterans Alex Izyk, Riley Girod and Owen Underhill each registered their first of the year, along with defenseman Josh Karman, who also tallied in his Stars debut, following a full season with Olds of the Alberta Junior Hockey League as a 17-year-old last year.

The North Stars will see just two lineup changes from Friday, as first-year goaltender, Cedric Cyr-Dauphinais will draw in between the pipes to make his debut with the team, while Bailey Shortall will also get his first look up front.

Cyr-Dauphinais, a product of Beloeil, QC., played last year in the Quebec U18 AAA League, posting 17-7-0 record in 26 games with the Saint-Hyacinthe Gaulois, along with a 2.32 goals against average and .911 save percentage. It was play that earned him a six-game call-up to the Quebec Major Junior League as well, with the Drummondville Voltigeurs.

Shortall is coming off a standout season in the Nova Scotia U18 Hockey League, where he posted 52 points (21 goals, 31 assists) in 34 games for the Halifax McDonald’s U18 team. Shortall will slot in on the right wing alongside pivot Kobe Anderson and Rylan Williams, who will move to the left-wing side, Saturday.

The North Stars will be looking to build on an opening night performance that saw the team fire 42 shots on the Kindersley goal, bringing relentless pressure throughout the game, with no fewer than 13 shots in each of the three periods.

Kindersley will be hungry for a quick bounce back in their first game in front of their home crowd, at the West Central Events Centre.

The Klippers’ lineup changes will see right-winger, Zak Anderson move onto the top line alongside captain Logan Linklater and Tylin Hilbig, the latter of which had a couple of nice looks in Friday’s contest if not for the air-tight goaltending of Joey Hawco in the Stars’ crease.

With Anderson on the top line, veteran Cash Arntsen moves to the Klippers’ second line alongside centreman Logan Cox, while David Lebel will shift to line three.

In goal, the Klippers’ other main change will see goaltender Logan Falk get the start, after Cody Jaman opened the weekend with a 38-save effort in the opener.

Falk, who played 26 games with the Klippers last season, is coming off a stellar pre-season with the team, that saw him post a 2.68 goals against average and .931 save percentage in two appearances.

Saturday night’s game will be available on 1050 CJNB, with the Ultra Print Pregame Show at 7 p.m. and puck drop to follow at 7:30 p.m. on the NAPA Auto Parts North Stars Hockey Broadcast.
