Chamber promoting local business with Find it in Five campaign

People visiting the Battlefords Chamber of Commerce in the near future will also be able to find out what nearby restaurants, hotels and other businesses are within a stone’s throw of the chamber building at the edge of North Battleford.

The chamber discussed its new Find it in Five promotion at Tuesday’s board meeting.

Through the campaign, local businesses can put up a poster or other signage inside the Chamber office as well as the bathrooms so people dropping by to make use of the amenities or ask for information will be able to find out which businesses are located within a five-minute drive from the chamber’s location.

Chair Dallan Oberg said it’s a great initiative and a good way to showcase local business.

“It’s advertisement space that we’re selling to members for the thousands of people who come in to use the bathroom or to ask questions in the summertime,” he said.

He added the chamber has a superior location. It’s one of the first buildings people see when they come to the Battlefords so it is an ideal place to connect people with local business.

Oberg pointed out the chamber office exists as a place to draw people to business, and business to business. It is not a tourism centre, but the chamber does want to let the community know it’s a business centre.

He said the chamber has received a lot of positive feedback on the Find it in Five idea since it first starting talking about it to its members.

The chamber is putting out a Request for Proposals for someone wishing to work with them on the installation and operation of a digital sign on the front of its property facing the highway.

The chamber is still deciding on the details of this project that is in its initial stages.

Post-budget meeting

The chamber is planning its annual post provincial budget luncheon meeting for members and the community to hear first-hand how the budget will impact business.

Provincial Finance Minister Donna Harpauer will visit the chamber on March 28 to give a presentation and answer any questions people may have about the budget.

Oberg said he would highly recommend people come to the event to hear the minister respond to any questions they may have related to the budget.

“It allows our business community to ask questions directly to the minister of (the province’s) decision- making,” he said. “It gives our members and whoever wants to attend a chance to ask how the province is spending their money.”
