Murder charge laid after fight in Buffalo River

One man is dead and another is charged with second-degree murder following a fight at a home on the Buffalo River Dene Nation.

Dillon RCMP arrested and charged Nathan Billett of the First Nation with a single count of second-degree murder on Sept. 13.

Earlier that day at about 6:40 a.m., police learned of an altercation between two men that led to the injury of George Bekkattla, 55. He was declared deceased at the scene by paramedics.

Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes took carriage of the investigation and later that morning Billette was arrested.

He will make his first court appearance in La Loche Provincial Court on September 18.
