Four members of the North Battleford Fire Department were recently recognized for their contributions to protective services, with a special presentation in front of a full gallery at Monday’s city council meeting in North Battleford.

Captain Brian Marchewka, Robin Tomaz, Rob Beatch, and Les Markewich were formally recognized as recipients of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medals, presented by North Battleford Fire Chief, Lindsay Holm.

“These firefighters all display dedication, a great sense of duty to their community, commitment to advancing their knowledge, and skills to benefit the department,” Chief Holm said.

“Each of these firefighters display loyalties to the department and their community. They execute their duties with good nature and positive attitudes. Each of these four individuals exemplify the traits of what firefighters should strive to become.”

All four have long served the Battlefords and area.

Capt. Marchewka first joined the North Battleford Fire Department as a paid on-call firefighter back in 1980 and has been a full-time member since 1995. Tomaz has been with the N.B. Fire Department since 2001 and will assume the role of captain effective September 30.

Beatch and Markewich are senior paid on-call firefighters who have been with the local detachment since 1990 (Beatch) and 1997 (Markewich), respectively.

In addition to the four firefighters who were recognized at city council, Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medals were also previously awarded to three other members of the North Battleford Fire Department: Chief Holm, Deputy Chief Paul Perry, and Captain Rob Campbell.
