Free drive-in movie offers purrrfect send-off to summer

The City of North Battleford is holding its annual “Send-off to Summer” on Friday night with a drive-in movie under the stars.

Taking place at the field by the InnovationPlex (located at 623 Carlton Trail), the movie showing will be ‘Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.’

Parking admittance will begin at 6 p.m., with the start of the movie at 8 p.m. There will be food trucks on-site to purchase snacks, along with free popcorn provided by Magic Lantern Theatres while supplies last.

Community programmer with the city, Siobhan Gormley said the Send-off to Summer movie is valuable because it serves as a way to connect all in the community, regardless of age, financial standing, or other factors.

“It’s a great event for families and really everybody,” she said. “It’s a free event sponsored by Innovation Federal Credit Union as well as the City of North Battleford, and people can either stay in their car or there is audio as well, so there will be seating at the front for those who want to watch from outdoors.”

Gormley said the nature of the drive-in has allowed it to quickly become a seasonal tradition for many families, through both good times and challenging times in recent years.

“It was great because we could do it when the restrictions with COVID were on as long as the cars stayed apart, and the attendance has slowly grown every year since then, so we’re looking forward to another strong turnout this year,” she said.
