Oral was a wonderful, well liked, social kind of guy, who was born in Ceylon, Saskatchewan. He was an only child who moved about a lot with his parents. He attended Hummingbird school in Gladmar, schools in Beaubier and Rosetown, and attended high school at Nutana collegiate in Saskatoon. A gymnast in high school, he loved those years and always said it was great growing up in the 50s. His dad did some carpentry as did Oral. After graduating he worked the oil rigs in Alberta and later became a journeyman carpenter. He married Judy Scott in 1965 and they had four children, Audrey (1966), Sheldon (1968-2023), Derek (1970), and Troy (1974-1974). He worked for Sears for over 20 years where he met Donna, and they were married in 1982. He worked his way up to manager and was transferred to Kitimat, BC. In the late 80s they made Battleford their home. Oral enjoyed working for the Housing Authority. He became involved in the North Battleford Legion where he became president. He was also very proud of being a volunteer firefighter, where he made many friends. He was also very involved with the Diabetes Association as his wife Donna lived with diabetes. Oral and Donna love to dance and his family and friends joined them many years at the Legion to dance away the afternoon on Remembrance Day. Oral was a positive and vivacious person. He loved travelling especially down to Arizona to enjoy the warmth and company of Terri, Don and Dani and family. He was always willing to help out and lend a hand. Oral and Donna spent many summers camping at Aquadeo, enjoying each other’s company and visiting with friends and family. Later in his life while at the care center he enjoyed watching Rider games with his friends Bud and Niel.
Oral loved people and he uplifted all who met him with his unique ability to connect with others. He will be greatly missed. He went peacefully in his sleep and now is free to dance again. Oral, you will live in our hearts always!
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan or Canadian Diabetes Association in Saskatchewan.
