Sask. Party nomination meeting planned for Thursday

The Battlefords Saskatchewan Party Constituency Association is getting ready for its nomination meeting to run this Thursday in North Battleford.

Registration will take place at 6 p.m., with the meeting set to start at 7 p.m., at the Air Cadets Hall at 792 111 Street.

As no other individuals submitted their nomination papers for the constituency by the closing date July 6, the Saskatchewan Party confirmed incumbent Jeremy Cockrill will be acclaimed at the meeting as its candidate in the province’s next general election, expected to be held in October of 2024.

Patrick Bundrock, Saskatchewan Party executive director, said the meeting will be called to order by the constituency president. Then, Cockrill will be formally acclaimed, and give his acceptance speech.

Cockrill first won the Battlefords Sask. Party nomination in February of 2020. He then went on to win the election in October of that year, becoming the new MLA for the Battlefords, following former MLA Herb Cox’s retirement.

Cockrill currently serves as the Minister of Highways and the minister responsible for Saskatchewan Water Security Agency.

The upcoming nomination meeting “is kind of a kick-off to the 2024 election,” he told battlefordsNOW. “I’ll be running again in the 2024 election. I’m looking forward to it. I think it’s been a good few years here, and there are some really exciting things ahead for Saskatchewan, especially the Battlefords. I’m looking forward to hopefully being a part of that again.”
