Town of Battleford taking entries for upcoming parade

The Town of Battleford is gearing up for its 38th annual parade next month and is now accepting entries for participants.

The event will take place Aug. 11, starting at 7 p.m. The theme for the event is Beach Party.

“People can dress in something colourful, get the water guns out and play the Beach scene music,” Parks and Recreation Manager Jordan Schechtel said.

Participants are also invited to ride their horses and antique cars in the parade.

“If we can get [some] bands out that would be great,” Schechtel added. “Any kind of music is always nice to have as well.”

If anyone has a float or group that wants to take part in the parade they are asked to contact the Town Hall to register. The forms are available on the Town of Battleford website or by contacting the Town directly to receive a copy.

“We’re definitely taking registrations right now,” Schechtel said. “They will want to get them in early if they want to be judged because the deadline for judging will be August 7.”

The parade will start and finish at the track behind St. Vital School. Pre-registered entries will be judged between 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 pm. prior to the parade.

The Town’s parade takes place a few days before the Northwest Territorial Days Parade. People participating in the Town’s parade will be able to store their floats in the Battleford Arena after the parade if they plan to take part in the Northwest Territorial Days Parade as well.

“We just need to know on the entry form if they are planning on doing that, to make sure we can accommodate everyone who wants to do it,” Schechtel said.

The parade will be followed by fireworks in the evening, starting at about 10:30 p.m. or around dusk, at the field across from the Fort.

Schechtel noted the parade and fireworks are always a good way to celebrate summer in Battleford.

“It’s good to see people downtown. We had to take a break for a couple of years [due to COVID], but last year when we had it there were lots of people out,” he said.

Schechtel added this year the Lions Club plan to host a barbecue at the Gazebo Park prior to the parade, as another highlight.

“Hopefully, we can get lots of people out again,” he said.
