Woman charged after knife attack on Ministikwan Lake Cree Nation

May 15, 2023 | 4:18 PM

A 34-year-old woman is facing several charges after a man was injured with a knife in Ministikwan Lake Cree Nation.

Around 8:45 a.m. on May 12, Loon Lake RCMP received a report of an assault near a clinic in the community.

There they found a woman, armed with a knife, who was not allowing people into the clinic. She also allegedly attacked a man who suffered non-life-threatening injuries and didn’t need to go to a hospital.

The police say the woman was distraught and wasn’t cooperating, so an officer decided to use a conducted energy device to subdue her. She was taken into custody and assessed by medical personnel.

The woman, who has not been named at this time, has since been charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, assault on a police officer with a weapon, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

She’s scheduled to make her next court appearance in Loon Lake on July 27, 2023.
