City plans Household Hazardous Waste Day drop off Saturday

Apr 28, 2023 | 8:31 PM

North Battleford residents will finally be able to get rid of their leftover furniture cleaner, caulking and aerosol cans.

The city plans to hold its Household Hazardous Waste Day (HHWD) drop off at the City’s Public Works Shop at 11112-6 Avenue, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Commercial loads will not be accepted.

They said on its website the purpose of HHWD is to make sure hazardous waste is not poured down the drain, poured onto the ground, into the sewers, or placed in with the trash.

“All of these would be considered ‘improper disposal,’ which can cause serious threats to our health, and have negative impacts on the environment,” the city stated.

The city holds two Household Hazardous Waste Days a year – in the fall and spring.

The full list of items the city will accept for HHWD is available here . People are asked to label the items clearly, if they are not in their original containers.

For items like leftover paint, SARCAN accepts these products free of charge any time.

Used batteries can be dropped off at the city’s Waste Management Facility for free. People can also drop off their old alkaline and cellphone batteries at City Hall.
